A new film has been created about being safe when visiting the Dorset coast. Thanks to LoveLove Films who created the animation and the Fine Family Foundation for funding the initiative, the film is due to be launched on 27th June 2017 at the SafeWise Centre in Bournemouth.
Bridget Betts, Dorset Coast Forum Coordinator explained “The Dorset coast is a fantastic place to visit and explore but unfortunately there can be dangers at the beach and along our coastline. We see news headlines where parts of the Jurassic coast have come down, people have got stuck by avoiding signs or children have been taken out to sea on inflatables. We therefore decided to produce an animated film that would deliver safety messages together in a fun and different way”
Many organisations already provide safety information through campaigns and leaflets, all of whom do a great job but for visitors it can be confusing and overwhelming. This film was a chance for us all to work together and put all those messages together and let the characters in the film share them.
The film was originally produced for SafeWise, a charity that has interactive centres in Bournemouth and in Weymouth. Alison Shelton BEM, SafeWise Chief Executive, explains “The two centres provide memorable and exciting opportunities for people of all ages to learn about staying safe and healthy at home, on the roads and at the coast. Their unique and memorable life-sized environments help people to spot the potential for danger, learn about risk and consequence and how to take responsibility for their actions – all in safe and controlled environments. The film is going to be used as part of their visit but we hope that it can be used wider than this and be available at the many visitor centres and of course through social media”
Visit Dorset, the official tourism site for Dorset, are helping to promote safety on the coast and they have created a dedicated CoastWise page where the film can be viewed and people can learn more about how to get the most out of their visit and stay safe. The Dorset Coast Forum coordinated the project, working with organisations including, National Trust, RLNI, Litter Free Coast and Sea, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, The Jurassic Coast Trust, Dorset Wildlife Trust, Visit Dorset and SafeWise.
We really hope you enjoy the film (available at https://www.visit-dorset.com/coastwise) #CoastWiseDorset
