Your Local Experience

Our partners Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Oxfordshire County Council usually support a safety centre in Oxford, run by the Junior Citizen Trust, which can be visited by Year 6 pupils for 13 weeks a year.

Due to Covid-19, the centre is currently closed, which is why schools are encouraged to join SafeWise and access our digital resources.

SafeWise School Members in Oxfordshire will be updated as soon as Junior Citizen is again open, as a physical visit will be a practical way to embed the learning from the SafeWise programme.

Your Local Experience

Under usual circumstances, Hertfordshire Crucial Crew organises 8 temporary schemes for Year 6 pupils across the county where they can learn about safety and risk in practical scenarios similar to those in the permanent centre at Bournemouth.

Due to Covid-19, these schemes are on hold, which is why Crucial Crew and Fire Service partners encourage schools to sign up as Safewise Member schools and access the virtual learning village and digital resources.

SafeWise School Members from Hertfordshire will be updated as soon as any Hertfordshire Crucial Crew schemes are re-opened. A physical visit will be a practical way to embed the learning from the SafeWise programme.

Your Local Experience

The SafeWise ethos is one of practical, activity-based learning in realistic scenarios like those we have in our Bournemouth Centre. That isn’t possible anywhere in the UK at the moment due to Covid-19. That’s why we have designed our digital resources to work well in your classroom and for home learning whether or not you have a local centre or temporary scheme to visit with your pupils.

We work closely with similar centres around the UK as part of the Safety Centre Alliance. We would recommend that as well as signing up as a SafeWise member, you check out the Safety Centre directory and, if you do have a centre within travelling distance, that you get in touch wto arrange a physical visit as soon as they are allowed again. A physical visit will be a practical way to embed the learning from the SafeWise programme and is strongly recommended.
